Another article about the importance of Play

In a recent edition of The Atlantic, Tim Walker supports the notion that student choice and play are essential elements of a kindergarten classroom.  His article, The Joyful, Illiterate Kindergartners of Finland, pushes against the current approach in many US schools to teach literacy at the expense of more self-directed learning.  It’s an interesting read, and certainly supports the balanced approach of developing literacy skills within the context of social play and inquiry-based learning that exists in Lower School.
