LS Parent Coffee on Growth Mindsets

Over the past few years, researcher and author Carol Dweck has coined the phrase “growth mind-set.” Her important research supports the idea that “teaching people to have a “growth mind-set,” which encourages a focus on “process” (consisting of personal effort and effective strategies) rather than on intelligence or talent, helps make them into high achievers in school and in life.” We invite all Lower School parents to join consulting psychologist Dr. Mary McCann and Lower School Director Ben Thrash who will facilitate a parent workshop exploring this research. Carol Dweck’s recent article in Scientific American, “The Secret to Raising Smart Kids,” provides a great overview of this research, and its profound impacts on teaching, learning, and parenting. We hope that you can join us for conversation and “Q and A” on April 14 from 8:30-9:30am in the LS Music Room.
